KUCK Karl Otto
of Waterford, passed away at home on December 18, 2017, at the age of 92. He was born November 3, 1925, to Adolph and Rosalie Kuck of Bad Axe, where he grew up in a large farming family and graduated from high school. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he became a certified radio technician, and shortly after met Dorothy (Schlicht), marrying her in June of 1951. He loved her dearly for 65 years of marriage and missed her every day after her death in 2016.
Karl’s lifetime was spent in service to others. He worked for decades as a radio technician for WPON and the City of Pontiac, but he was even more devoted to his family and church. He treasured his siblings and their families and looked forward to the yearly reunions on the farm. His four daughters were a special joy, and he enthusiastically embraced the addition of sons-in-law and grandchildren, especially if they brought him cookies of any kind for his birthdays. Generously giving of his time, he spent many hours fixing electronic items and cars, assisting with home building, and keeping his church’s sound system in running order. He also loved camping and fishing, having spent many hours in his fishing boat with family.
It was from Karl that his girls learned to drive, value education, appreciate nature in all forms, draw goofy pictures, and determine multiple routes to any destination. He was a stern but fair and loving father, living life simply and humbly while demonstrating the concept of a strong work ethic.
Karl is survived by his four daughters – Karen (David) Motzny, Kathie O’Neill, Kristine (David) McKenney, and Karol (Frank) Hartley; seven grandchildren – Michael and Millicent Motzny, Erin (Danielle) Keesling, Megan (Theron) Keesling Brown, Melissa O’Neill Hall, Corey (Emily) O’Neill and Philip Hartley; two step-grandchildren – Karl and Sara Hartley; three great-grandchildren – Searra Hall, Emmalyn and Arlen Keesling; two step great-grandchildren – Grace and Faith Warner; sister Johanna Fuerst; sisters-in-law Donna Schlicht, Delores Schlicht, and Lorene Schlicht; brother-in-law, Donald Heiden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; grandson, Matthew Motzny; son-in-law Thomas O’Neill; siblings Albert (Hazel) Kuck, Ed (Rita) Kuck, Daniel Kuck, Sam Kuck, Alfred Kuck, Martha (Fritz) Milz, Albertina (John) Miller, Alma (Karl) Burow, Elmer Fuerst, and Emma (Robert) Kohl, along with in-laws from the Schlicht family: Martin Schlicht, Johnny Schlicht, Michael (Alice) Schlicht, Herman Schlicht, Mary (Vern) Draeger, and Helen Heiden.
Visitors may greet the family beginning Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. and during the luncheon afterward in the church.
A memorial service celebrating Karl’s life will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 12 noon at Good Samaritan Lutheran Church of Pontiac, 517 W. Walton Boulevard, Pontiac. Pastor Jen Herrmann officiating.

You've always had a smile on your face and were so easy going. I remember the first time we went fishing out on a boat and you and my dad caught all the little fish so I could catch the only big one in the lake it seemed. I remember exploring your basement and being amazed at all the cool electrical parts and gadgets. I'll always remember your tough and rough hard worked hands and how they tickled and made my kids smile just they way I did when I was their age. We'll miss your soft laugh and mustachey smile! Give hugs to Matt, Grandma and Uncle Tom for us! Love you Grandpa!
