RAFT Elaine Dawn
(nee Loper) of Clawson, passed away November 7, 2017 at 82 years of age. Elaine was the eldest daughter of Matthew and Marie Loper. She and her sister Sheila spent the majority of their youth in Waterford, MI graduating from Waterford Township High School. Elaine loved competitive roller skating and the Drama Club. Shortly after graduating, she went to work at Pontiac Motor Corporation in the secretarial pool where she added many life-long friends to the list from her school days, and developed a knack for office management.
Elaine married Gregory Raft in 1957, and together they had three daughters, Pamela (Raft) Batcho (Tim), Lisa (Raft) Douglas, and Jill (Raft) Christian (Paul). They moved to West Bloomfield, MI in 1965 where Elaine was fortunate to be able to remain at home and raise the girls until the youngest went into elementary school. Elaine then returned to the workforce where she became an office manager for Dale Carnegie, as well as other manufacturing and retail companies.
Elaine loved gardening and flowers but her greatest joy was found in her family. Pam, Lisa and Jill gave her five grandchildren: Eric McGuigan (Jennifer), Annie (McGuigan) Fenton (Michael), Kyle Christian, Lauren Douglas and Jenna Douglas. Those grandchildren have brought four great-grandchildren into her life so far: Hannah Keller McGuigan, Liam McGuigan, Cora Fenton and Oona Fenton. Her favorite activity was any time the family got together or when she received calls or texts from them.
Family will receive friends Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at COATS-SASHABAW.
Memorial service, Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Coats Funeral Home-Waterford.

Love and Prayers for you all during these difficult times. I know your hearts are heavy and sad, but try to fill them with happy family memories. Elaine spoke with love and pride about each of you, with every card and phone call over the years. Cousin Pat
I will miss my dear friend Elaine over the years we've lived in the same apartment we've shared many good times and some bad times the most I will miss it's her waving at me sometimes in the morning from the kitchen window when I leave for work at 6 a.m. and coming back at lunch time and greeting me in the hallway I will miss her calls asking me to come down there she's not feeling well if I could take her blood pressure or if I could check on another elderly person in the building but most of all I will miss her in the garden taking care of the grass and all the planets that she admired so much I will miss her coming up dropping off carrot cake devil's food cake and also many dishes that she's made over the years and brought up to me I can't thank God for friendship that I had with her I became close as any one person can she was a second mother to me. Thank you Elaine for the gift of friendship.
