WARNER Doris Ione (nee Cooley)
of Waterford, passed away at her home on Silver Lake, November 5, 2017 at 90 years of age. Dear wife of the late F.H.O. Warner M.D. “Hugh”; loving mother of Stephen C. Warner and Kathryn L. (Richard) Schneider; proud grandmother of her favorite grandson Kurt A. Schneider; sister of the late Charles (Marianne) Cooley. Doris grew up in West Bend, Wisconsin. She was a lifelong learner. She had a prescription for boredom: take another class and learn new things. Doris earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology and a bachelor's of science in Mathematics degree from MacMurry College in Jacksonville, Illinois. She worked for several mental health agencies, as well as a member of, American Association of University Women (50 years), Waterford Township Library Broad, Michigan Library Association, former president of the Michigan Council for Libraries, Friends for Libraries, and the Waterford Board of Education. Libraries and education were her passions, as well as, the arts. Because of her love of mathematics Doris began a second career in her 50's as a Financial Planner with Sigma Financial Corp., helping many people in and around the Waterford area with one of life's overwhelming tasks, their finances. She was instrumental in establishing the Waterford Friends of the Arts. Doris loved to travel, especially with the Nomads and Elder Hostel Travel Groups even a trip to Africa to celebrate her 80th birthday. She was passionate about everything she did, which included playing the organ, photography, weaving, time with her family, friends, and when she wasn’t working on her many projects, she was enjoying time at her home (built with her husband Hugh) in the 60’s on Silver lake.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m until the time of the service.
Memorial service will be held Monday, November 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, (171 W. Pike Street, Pontiac). There will be light refreshments following the service.
Sending condolences on behalf of the Waterford Township Public Library Staff and Library Advisory Board. Doris was a key member of the Library Board during a time of growth, including passage of the operating millage that has been a stabilizing factor for library services to our community. She will be missed.
To the Warner family,
Your Mom was a wonderful woman and very patient with all of Steve's friends. I have very fond memories when she allowed all of us to invade the house on the lake. Our thoughts are with you all.
