BRODERICK Rev. Leo P.
of Waterford died August 7, 2017, at age 87. Father Leo Broderick faithfully served as a priest in the Archdiocese of Detroit for 61 years. Father Leo was born on March 1, 1930 to James and Jennie (Bergin) Broderick. He grew up in Detroit and attended St Luke’s school and graduated from Detroit Catholic Central in 1948. He entered Sacred Heart Seminary that same year and was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Detroit in on June 2, 1956. Fr. Leo graduated from Sacred Heart Seminary in 1952 with a B.A. in Philosophy. He did his theologate (graduate seminary work) at St. John’s Provincial Seminary and received a Masters in Divinity. In 1970 he received a M.A. in History from Eastern Michigan, and in 1971 he received an STL (Sacred Theology Licentiate) from St. Paul University and the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Canada. Fr. Leo served as an Associate Pastor at St. Frances Cabrini Parish, Allen Park and as a Pastor at St. Clement Parish, Dearborn; St. William Parish, Walled Lake; St. Augustine Parish, Richmond; Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, Waterford; St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, Algonac; St. John the Evangelist Parish, Allenton; St. Nicholas Parish, Capac. He also served on the faculty of St. John’s Provincial Seminary in Plymouth. After retirement, Fr. Leo served as Administrator at St. Barnabas Parish, Eastpointe; All Saints Parish, Memphis; Holy Rosary Mission, Columbus; St. Philip Neri Parish, Columbus. Fr. Leo is survived by his brother Daniel (Peggy) Broderick of Flagler Beach, FL, his sister in-law Sheila (Donald) Broderick of Northville, his brother-in-law Marvin (Alice) Foguth of Waterford and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Jennie Broderick, brothers William, James and Donald and sisters Johanna Phalen and Alice Foguth.
Friday from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m., with a rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church
A Funeral Mass for Father Leo, will take place on Saturday, August 12, 10:30 a.m. (in state 10:00 am) at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, 5481 Dixie Hwy. Waterford.
